How Does Microneedling Work?

Minimally invasive Skin Pen microneedling uses a number of tiny needles that work in concert to create what we call micro-injuries in the upper layer of your facial skin. These slight, controlled injuries stimulate a minor inflammatory response that triggers your immune system to mobilize wound-healing mechanisms to the area. These mechanisms immediately get to work regenerating new skin cells and repairing both the micro-injuries created by the Skin Pen and your pre-existing skin damage.

In addition to triggering your body’s natural healing response, Skin Pen microneedling also works to enhance your body’s natural collagen production. Collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, is an essential component of healthy, vibrant, voluminous skin. Because this protein plays a central role in your skin’s elasticity, firmness, and structure, increasing your body’s production of collagen promotes smooth, youthful, supple skin.

Microneedling with Exosome Application

A regenerative exosome facial combines the collagen-stimulating capabilities of the Skin Pen with the powerful healing properties of exosomes for a profound anti-aging effect. Exosomes, often referred to as the body’s messengers, communicate with your damaged and aging skin cells to stimulate new, healthy cell growth and development.

Regenerative exosome facials begin with the microneedling portion of the treatment, after which we immediately apply exosomes. After application, these tiny communicators instantly begin working in concert with your body’s immune system to begin the healing and regeneration process. Together, they double down on repairing skin damage, creating new structural proteins, and building new, healthy skin cells.

Why Exosomes?

Scientists have recently discovered that exosomes, not stem cells, guide the formation of new tissues throughout the body. Stem cells—the building blocks of your entire body—secrete these tiny extracellular vesicles as a form of communication between cells. What makes exosomes so unique is what they carry: proteins, lipids, growth factors, and genetic material that represent their parent stem cells. Exosomes transfer this crucial cellular information to new cells to influence their development and proliferation.

On a very basic level, exosomes transfer cellular “blueprints” from healthy skin cells to damaged or dying skin cells. These “instructions” guide the formation of healthy new skin, resulting in a significantly more youthful, smooth, glowing complexion.

Benefits of Regenerative Aesthetic Treatments

Regenerative aesthetic treatments are highly effective for combating an array of skin issues associated with aging and damage. Fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, loose skin, acne, and scarring all respond beautifully to treatment. The best part? Regenerative treatments are far from a quick fix; instead, they actually promote further skin improvements over time.

Reduce Fine Lines and Wrinkles

As aging begins to take its toll—typically around the age of 25—your body’s natural collagen production begins to decline. And, as collagen slowly decreases, lines and wrinkles waste no time setting up shop. Regenerative aesthetic treatments help you reverse lines and wrinkles by stimulating new collagen production and new skin cell formation. As your body generates new collagen and builds healthy, new skin, you’ll see lines and wrinkles gradually fade away.

Even Skin Tone and Hyperpigmentation

As you move through the aging process, skin cell turnover gradually slows. Often, this phenomenon results in uneven skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and a dull complexion that makes you appear older than you feel. Exosome facials effectively even out your skin by renewing cell turnover and stimulating the growth and proliferation of healthy, new skin cells.

Reduce Sun Damage

Ongoing exposure to damaging ultraviolet rays can wreak havoc on your skin in a relatively short period of time. Unfortunately, this damage often goes unnoticed until much later when skin cell turnover begins to decline. For many former sun worshippers, sunspots, keratosis, and uneven skin tone and texture seem to develop out of nowhere as their skin begins to age. Regenerative aesthetic treatments work to combat sun damage by ramping up collagen production and stimulating the growth and turnover of new, healthy skin cells.

Tighten Loose Skin

As the aging process begins, collagen production starts to wind down. Elastin, another essential protein that gives your skin its structure, takes a little longer to fade away, but by 40, production slows to a trickle. With little collagen and elastin left, your skin has nowhere to go but down—literally. Regenerative aesthetic treatments work to bring back structure and elasticity to sagging or loose skin by stimulating your body’s production of collagen and elastin while boosting cell regeneration and turnover.

What to Expect With Regenerative Aesthetic Treatments

At Derma Dolce, we customize each of our regenerative treatments to address your unique skin concerns and aesthetic goals. Before your procedure, you’ll meet with our clinical aesthetician, who will evaluate your skin and discuss your areas of concern. We’ll then formulate a custom treatment protocol designed to deliver the dramatic anti-aging results you’re after.

  • What happens during treatment? Just before the procedure, we’ll apply a topical anesthetic to help make the facial as comfortable as possible. Microneedling typically requires just 30 minutes for the entire face, so any slight discomfort during the process is relatively short-lived. After we perform the microneedling segment of the treatment, we immediately apply a combination of exosomes and hyaluronic acid to calm the skin and stimulate cell turnover and repair.
  • What happens after treatment? When the topical anesthetic wears off, expect your skin to feel sensitive for 24-72 hours. Your skin will also appear slightly inflamed and red during the first couple of days after the treatment as the micro-injuries continue to heal. We highly recommend staying out of the sun during this time, as your skin is significantly more susceptible to damage from UV rays.

For the most consistent, even results, we strongly advise against removing any scabbing that may result from the procedure. We also encourage all of our clients to apply a high-quality sunscreen, both after the procedure and every day going forward. Typically, results from regenerative aesthetic treatments become apparent after several days, with continued improvement in skin tone, texture, firmness, and elasticity over one to two months.

At Derma Dolce, our customized, regenerative aesthetic treatments can help you turn back the clock on aging skin, and our skilled, passionate team is ready to help you do it. Aging might be out of your control, but we’ll give you the tools you need to handle it gracefully. If you’ve been on the hunt for the revolutionary exosome facial, we’re the team to call.
